Licensing
Commercial Use & Studio Licensing
USL is designed to eliminate hours of tedious pipeline work, directly saving you and your team valuable production time. Because of the impact it has on professional workflows, using USL for any commercial work requires an active Commercial Subscription.
If this tool helps you make money, your subscription is what allows continued updates, maintained DCC compatibility, and new features.
Getting a Commercial Licence
Commercial licences are issued via Patreon. Subscribing at the Commercial tier gives you:
- A valid commercial licence for your studio or freelance business
- Priority support
- Early access to new features and DCC plugins
Who Needs a Commercial Subscription?
Any freelancer, agency, or studio using USL for:
- Paid client projects
- Commercial IP or product development
- Within a for-profit studio pipeline
If work you produce with USL generates revenue - directly or indirectly - a commercial licence applies to you.
Why Subscribe?
Beyond the legal right to use USL for commercial gain, the commercial tier is the lifeblood of the project. Your subscription directly funds:
- Compatibility updates as Maya, Blender, Houdini, and Unreal Engine release new versions
- Active bug fixes and performance improvements
- New features and DCC integrations
By holding a commercial licence, you are investing in a smoother, faster pipeline for your own business while supporting independent software development.
What About Personal Work?
If you are a student, hobbyist, or building your personal portfolio without any financial gain, you are fully covered under the standard free tier. No licence required.
