Projects & Takes

UFM keeps your captures as plain files on disk, grouped into projects. There’s nothing locked in a proprietary database — the filesystem is the source of truth, with a local index on top for fast browsing.

Takes

A take is a single capture — one webcam recording or one tracked video. Each take stores:

  • per-frame data — the 52 ARKit blendshapes plus 3-axis head rotation, with timestamps
  • the source/reference video (when recorded)
  • metadata and a thumbnail

Takes are real folders inside your library, so you can back them up or move them like any other files.

Projects

Projects group related takes together. The project panel shows your projects as a tree; selecting one filters the take browser to its takes. New takes are saved into the currently selected project.

The take browser supports a grid or list view (your choice is remembered) and a prominent Send to DCC button that’s enabled once a DCC is connected.

Library location

Your library lives in a per-user data folder by default, and you can move it with File ▸ Library Location…. Changing the location re-points the app at the new folder and re-indexes it. File ▸ Show Library in Explorer opens it in your file browser.

Existing takes aren’t moved automatically when you change the location — the app simply switches to the new folder.

Sending a take to a DCC

With a DCC connected, select a take and click Send to DCC (the button shows the connected app’s name, e.g. Send to Maya). The take loads onto your mapped rig in that DCC. See DCC Plugins for setup and the live-streaming workflow.
